A 21st birthday is not the same as it used to be due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, Avery Wallace, CEO, and founder of 21 Signz did not let the COVID-19 Pandemic hold her back from continuing her business.
Wallace crafts the sign to be unique to each person and represent their best assets. The back of the sign has 21 fun activities written on the back for the Birthday individual to partake in.
Avery Wallace says creating the signs can be challenging but rewarding at the same time.
“I’ve had to understand why some people lack patience and I’ve had to work even harder in order to satisfy people many times,” Wallace said. Thankfully, this had brought me more joy than stress since I’ve started, and it’s opened a lot of opportunities for me.”
Wallace operates her business completely by herself and has some advice that she would like to give to other student entrepreneurs.
“ I have found that utilizing Instagram as a business account is the most preferable way of communication with college students which is my largest product consumer and oftentimes adult and younger kids as well,” Wallace said. Fortunately, I’ve only had a few issues with receiving payments, but that has taught me a lot about the economic side of running your own business which is why I would advise other small business owners to be more assertive.”
Angela Farese, a Junior, at The University of Alabama, received a sign from 21 Signz and had a few kind remarks.
“I loved the sign I got from 21 Signz and my roommates did a great job with representing my personality and adding my favorite colors and designers,” Farese said. “I will definitely use her business for my other friends and she gets the sign back you in a decent time it’s just shocking to see her do all this while being a full-time student.”
Avery Wallace prefers to keep her sign-making process away from the public. She has expressed that her business has stayed consistent in revenue throughout the Pandemic.
“ I still receive multiple requests day-by-day from people everywhere and I try to manage all my orders in an Excel sheet by their Birthday to remain on track with all my orders, Wallace said.
Although, starting a business during a Pandemic, and being a student entrepreneur can be challenging. Wallace says utilize your resources of social media to gain that visibility. Even with a lot more free Student Entrepreneurs like Avery Wallace encourages others to remain consistent in their goals.
