The Greek Programming Board had over 500 students attend the Spill the Tea event where students asked Greek members questions about the four councils The University of Alabama has to offer.

Tuscaloosa, Ala.—

The Spill the Tea event provided students, both in and outside of Greek life information on the similarities and differences in the four Greek councils (Alabama Panhellenic Association, Alabama National Pan-Hellenic Council, Alabama Interfraternity Council, and Alabama United Greek Council). Students were given index cards to complete in regards to their Greek life Interests. Once the index cards were collected and sorted by Council, the panelists addressed many of the questions raised by students in the audience

The Greek Programming Board has scheduled events similar to Spill the Tea each month.

“Next month will be LGBT awareness month and we plan to partner with some resources on campus. In November, we plan to do something along the lines of micro aggressions,” Emry Summerville, president of the Theta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, said.

The audience asked the panelist questions based on membership processes, financial dues, the differences between day parties and swaps, to you use their fraternity and sorority as a career source, and the importance of Hand Signs and Strolls.  The panelist gave structured answers to help students understand the internal system of the way Greek Life operates.

According to the Greek Programming Board, Spill the Tea was a success! Everyone was informed of multiple similarities and differences within each council. The Greek Programming Board uses events like this to help form a Greek collaboration amongst each council and allow University of Alabama students who are interested in going Greek to ask questions that could help them in making their final decision about Greek Life.
